I think these random self portraits that teens have taken of them selves is some what of an art form. In a way these photos are, for the most part, how they want to be seen. Even if they take it at a certain angle or with an unnatural pose, they are showing viewers how they want to be viewed. They wouldn't post or send a picture they didn't like even if thats not what they normally look like.
I'm not really sure what the obsession is with taking a ton of pictures of yourself. I guess they are just trying to show who they are; give themselves identities. I guess I agree that the best photographer to make you look good is yourself but I think someone else could capture who you really are a lot better. Just because someone else isn't always going to try and capture you when you look the best but they will see something else that you maybe can't.
Lizzy i agree! I think you really do show how you want to be seen through these pictures. I also agree that others can capture things about you that you would try to avoid and maybe show you things that you didn't know. I think there are positives and negatives to these self portraits!
ReplyDeletei agree with you that someone else may not take the picture of you where you look "drop dead gorgeous" about the picture is you. What makes those pictures the best is because these pictures can be caught when you least expect it and are most likely unposed.
ReplyDeleteI agree that random snapshots are, in their own way, a representation of a self portrait. And when other people take a photo of you insterad of you doing it yourseld, I agree that they might find something that you never noticed before. :)
ReplyDeleteI love how you said that they take pictures of how they want to be viewed and it's like your own self expression.
ReplyDeleteI really like what you said about someone else maybe a better photographer than you because they aren't worrying what you hair looks like, or what your wearing, but they may see something in you that you don't. However, I still think that the random pictures where they are bending over to try and show off, or taking a picture from above, doesn't show who they really are.
ReplyDeleteLiz, I know you hate blogs, but what you've said here is really good. :) Yes, people are taking photographs of themselves based on how they WANT to be seen. It may not be truthful or "good", but it is a little bit about what they want to portray.
